Endocrine Neoplasia Program

Endocrine neoplasia refers to growths and tumors of the thyroid, pituitary, parathyroid, and adrenal glands. These relatively uncommon disorders may be cancerous or benign. The Endocrine Neoplasia Program at the Carole and Ray Neag Comprehensive Cancer Center is dedicated to the evaluation and treatment of the structural and hormonal consequences of endocrine neoplasia.

Our Endocrine Neoplasia Program is the only one of its kind in Connecticut, and our uniquely experienced multidisciplinary team of experts provides clinical services in the following areas:

  • Thyroid cancer and management of other thyroid disorders
  • Fine needle aspiration biopsy: thyroid and adrenal
  • Thyroid carcinoma testing: thyrogen stimulated thyroglobulin
  • Cancers and benign tumors of the adrenal glands
  • Invasive radiology including petrosal sinus sampling and adrenal vein sampling
  • Hyperparathyroidism and parathyroid tumors
  • Pituitary adenomas
  • Dynamic endocrine testing
  • Nuclear medicine scanning

As part of our mission, we have cultivated expertise in a wide variety of diagnostic and therapeutic procedures and work closely with teams of physicians from other departments to manage patients with these disorders. Our experts have backgrounds in endocrine surgery, urologic surgery, neurosurgery, neuroophthalmology, pathology, nuclear medicine, invasive radiology, hypertension, genetics, molecular biology, and endocrinology that provide state-of-the-art patient care, while performing clinical research to bring the most recent advances to our patients. In all, our team offers the comprehensive, expert care patients can only find at an academic medical center, like UConn.
