Endocrine Neoplasia Program
Endocrine neoplasia refers to growths and tumors of the thyroid,
pituitary, parathyroid, and adrenal glands. These relatively uncommon
disorders may be cancerous or benign. The Endocrine Neoplasia Program at the
Carole and Ray Neag Comprehensive Cancer Center is dedicated to the evaluation and treatment of the
structural and hormonal consequences of endocrine neoplasia.
Our Endocrine Neoplasia Program is the only one of its kind in
Connecticut, and our uniquely experienced multidisciplinary team of experts
provides clinical services in the following areas:
- Thyroid cancer and management of other thyroid disorders
- Fine needle aspiration biopsy: thyroid and adrenal
- Thyroid carcinoma testing: thyrogen stimulated thyroglobulin
- Cancers and benign tumors of the adrenal glands
- Invasive radiology including petrosal sinus sampling and adrenal vein
sampling
- Hyperparathyroidism and parathyroid tumors
- Pituitary adenomas
- Dynamic endocrine testing
- Nuclear medicine scanning
As part of our mission, we have cultivated expertise in a wide variety of
diagnostic and therapeutic procedures and work closely with teams of
physicians from other departments to manage patients with these disorders.
Our experts have backgrounds in endocrine surgery, urologic surgery,
neurosurgery, neuroophthalmology, pathology, nuclear medicine, invasive
radiology, hypertension, genetics, molecular biology, and endocrinology that
provide
state-of-the-art patient care, while performing clinical research to bring
the most recent advances to our patients. In all, our team offers the
comprehensive, expert care patients can only find at an academic medical
center, like UConn.
