Join the “Rays of Hope” May 19-20

UConn Health Center is Sponsor of Relay For Life in Farmington

FARMINGTON, CONN. – All are welcome to join the “Rays of Hope,” a team from the University of Connecticut Health Center’s Neag Comprehensive Cancer Center, during this year’s Relay For Life in Farmington.

Relay For Life is a festive, 24-hour fund-raising event for the American Cancer Society. It will run around the clock from 10 a.m. on Saturday, May 19 through 10 a.m. on Sunday, May 20. The Farmington event will be held at Farmington High School, on Monteith Drive, near the library.

The event will include a speaking program at 5 p.m. on Saturday and a candle-light service at approximately 7:30 p.m. when luminary candles will be lit around the track in honor of cancer survivors and in memory of those who lost their battle to cancer. In addition, music, games and activities will take place throughout the day, including a “Dancing Under the Stars” competition and a “Relay Idol” competition.

Along with organizing a team for the event, the UConn Health Center is one of the sponsors of the Farmington Relay For Life. This year, UConn is supporting the Survivor’s Tent, where cancer survivors will find free information about American Cancer Society services, as well as refreshments, gifts and more.

“We are delighted to be sponsors of the Relay For Life and especially pleased to support the survivors’ tent. We share the American Cancer Society’s commitment to provide all patients with the information and resources they need,” said Carolyn D. Runowicz, M.D., director of the Neag Comprehensive Cancer Center who served as president of the American Cancer Society from 2005 to 2006.
