Dr. John D. Nash Returns to UConn Health Center

Joins Highly Skilled Team of Gynecologic Oncologists

FARMINGTON, CONN. – John D. Nash, M.D., a leading expert in gynecologic oncology, has returned to Connecticut to see patients at the University of Connecticut Health Center’s Carole and Ray Neag Comprehensive Cancer Center. He joins a team that offers state-of-the-art care for women with gynecologic malignancies including cervical, uterine and ovarian cancers.

Dr. Nash practiced in the Hartford area for many years, and was instrumental in the development of the gynecologic oncology program at the UConn Health Center, before relocating to Virginia in 2005.

At the UConn Health Center, Dr. Nash joins Carolyn D. Runowicz, M.D., director of the Neag Comprehensive Cancer Center, past president of the American Cancer Society and chair of the National Cancer Advisory Board, and Molly A. Brewer, M.D., an expert in laparoscopic surgery and cancer prevention, and director of the Division of Gynecologic Oncology.

“With the addition of Dr. Nash, the Neag Comprehensive Cancer Center has the most comprehensive team of gynecologic oncologists in the region,” said Peter J. Deckers, M.D., executive vice president of the UConn Health Center.

“These three highly-skilled, outstanding specialists are committed to providing excellent care and pursuing new advances in the prevention and treatment of gynecologic cancers,” he added. “Dr. Nash is an excellent addition to our nationally-recognized program.”

Dr. Nash is a graduate of the Medical University of South Carolina and trained at the National Naval Medical Center, the National Cancer Institute and Walter Reed Army Medical Center. Along with his years of clinical experience, he also has a special research interest in cancer vaccine therapies.

“We have many unique resources to offer women, including novel targeted therapies; sophisticated, laparoscopic expertise; and high tech procedures,” added Dr. Runowicz. She noted that the UConn Health Center is the only site in Connecticut offering TomoTherapy, a new radiation oncology treatment that targets tumors directly and spares radiation exposure to surrounding, healthy tissue.
