Clinical Trials: Lung Cancer

Therapeutic Area: Non-Small Cell Lung Cancer

Title: E5597: A phase III chemoprevention trial of selenium supplementation in persons with resected stage 1 Non-Small Cell Lung cancer

Description: The purpose of this study is to determine if selenium can reduce the incidence of second primary lung tumors in patients who have been surgically treated for Stage I non-small cell lung cancer. Subjects will first take part in a 4 week trial to determine if they can remember to take medication on a daily basis. Following demonstration that the subject can, the subject will be randomized to receive either selenium or placebo.

Length/Duration: Maximum of 4 years

Therapeutic Area: Non-Small Cell Lung Cancer

Principal Investigator: Dr. Susan Tannenbaum

Title: E3598: Phase III trial of carboplatin, paclitaxel and thoracic radiation therapy with or without thalidomide for stage III NSCLC

Description: The purpose of this study is to determine if the addition of thalidomide to chemotherapy and radiation therapy for stage IIIA or IIIB NSCLC will increase survival.

Length/Duration: Treatment may be for up to 24 months, 5 years of follow-up.

Location: Neag Comprehensive Cancer Center at the University of Connecticut Health Center
