Therapeutic Area: Primary GastroIntestinal Stromal Tumor (GIST)

Principal Investigator: Dr. Susan Tannenbaum

Title: ECOG Z9001: A Phase III Randomized Double-blind Study of Adjuvant STI571 (Gleevec) Versus Placebo in Patients Following The Resection of Primary GastroIntestinal Stromal Tumor (GIST)

Description: To determine whether patients with resected primary GIST who are randomized to receiving Gleevec have longer recurrence-free survival as compared to the patients randomized to the Placebo Arm.

Length/Duration: Treatment for 1 years, follow-up for 9 years

Title: ECOG E4201: A Randomized Phase III Study of Gemcytabine in Combination with Radiation Therapy versus Gemcytabine Alone in Patients with Localized, Unresectable Pancreatic Cancer

Description: The major purpose(s) of this research study are to: 1) find out what the effects that gemcitabine and radiation therapy have on pancreatic cancer for complete or partial improvement compared to Gemcitabine alone, and 2) describe the toxicity related to the use of this drug in combination with radiation therapy in patients with pancreatic cancer

Length/Duration: Depends on response to therapy

Compensation: None
